13-week youth hockey classes

Beginner skaters:  Beginner skaters can enroll in Dad & Me Hockey (ages 7 and younger) or Hockey 1 (ages 8 years or older), but are encouraged to skate public sessions to work on basic skating skills.  Skaters can also enroll in an 8-week or 13-week Pre-Alpha class through our Learn to Skate program to work on basic skills including forward and backward skating and snowplow stops.  Click here to view current Learn to Skate schedule.

Hockey 1:  This class is geared for new players or for those who have not had formal lessons.  Class will cover stance, T-push, glide turns, stopping, backward stance, puckhandling stance, stationary puckhandling, open ice carry and more.  Children who have never skated before should consider taking a Pre-Alpha class through the Learn to Skate Program to learn basic skating skills prior to taking this class.

Hockey 2:  For skaters who have passed Hockey 1 or have comparable skills.  Class will cover lateral movement, front start, two-foot stop, crossover pumping, backward V-stop, forward to backwards pivot, backwards to forward pivot, tight turns and more.

Hockey 3:  For skaters who have passed Hockey 2 or have comparable skills.  Class will cover crossover start, tight turn, backward stop, pivot, stopping with puck, stationary flip pass, backhand reception and pass, puckhandling and more.

The USA Hockey Initiation Program curriculum was designed to prepare a student for organized league play over a period of 1-2 years.  Since students progress at different rates, sessions are often repeated in order to learn all the skills needed to become a good hockey player.  Attending stick time sessions, taking private lessons and attending public skating sessions will help you improve.

Classes are 13 weeks in duration and are one hour and 15 minutes long.  The first hour includes structured curriculum and games.  The final 15 minutes is pond hockey fun time.

Cost:  $180

Use of loaner skates and helmets are included in the fee.  ISI membership is no longer required.  A split payment plan is also available and will include a $5 handling fee with $95 due at enrollment and $90 due before the 7th week of class.
